Advertising Policy
1. Scope and definitions
1.1 This Advertising Policy (the "Policy") applies to every advertisement ("Ad") that a customer submits for display on a virtual billboard ("Billboard") in Reges Town under a Billboard Rental, and to the customer who submits it (the "Advertiser"). It is incorporated into the Terms of Service, where capitalized terms are defined. If this Policy and the Terms conflict, the Terms control.
1.2 "Including" means "including without limitation". "Shall" and "will not" state obligations. Where this Policy says we "may" act, the decision is ours, made in good faith.
1.3 To contact us, report an Ad, ask for review or send a notice, use the Contact Form. We do not accept notices by any other channel.
2. Principles
2.1 The Advertiser is responsible. The Advertiser is the advertiser of the Ad and is solely responsible for its content and legality. Approval by us is not a statement that an Ad is lawful, accurate or suitable, and it is not an endorsement.
2.2 Truthful. Ads shall be truthful, shall not mislead and shall comply with Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act, the FTC's Endorsement Guides and other laws that apply to advertising where the Ad is shown or aimed. Claims shall be supportable. Testimonials and endorsements shall be real and disclosed as the law requires.
2.3 Family-friendly Town. Reges Town is a shared public space that includes visitors aged 13 and older. Ads shall suit that audience. Ads shall not be aimed at children under 13.
2.4 Rights. The Advertiser shall own or hold the rights to everything in the Ad, including every image, font, logo and person shown, and shall hold the consent of any identifiable person depicted.
3. Ad formats
- Billboards. An image, resized by the Advertiser's browser to 1200 by 400 pixels and saved as a JPEG (resizing removes location and other metadata from photos), or text: a headline of up to 32 characters and a sub line of up to 48 characters, with a background color and a text color.
- Building banners. An image of 400 by 1200 pixels (portrait), made the same way, or text: a headline of up to 20 characters and a sub line of up to 40 characters, with two colors.
- Storefront signs. A name of up to 24 characters with a background color and a text color, shown on the lit sign over a shop's door. The name must be the Advertiser's own name or a business name the Advertiser has the right to use.
- The advertiser's name and the first Ad are given at checkout and checked automatically before payment; an Ad the check refuses is not taken to payment.
- One Ad version may wait for review at a time. A new upload replaces the version still waiting.
4. Prohibited ads
4.1 Prohibited content. An Ad shall not contain, promote, link to or suggest any of the following (and may be rejected or removed if it does):
- (a) Sexual content: nudity or sexually explicit or suggestive content; and any sexual content involving a minor (see section 8);
- (b) Violence: graphic violence, gore or cruelty, or content that glorifies harm;
- (c) Hate: hate symbols, slurs, dehumanizing content or extremist content;
- (d) Threats and harassment: threats, harassment or bullying, and content about private individuals, including their names, images or details;
- (e) Restricted goods: illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia; weapons and ammunition; tobacco, vaping and nicotine products; alcohol aimed at minors; and gambling, betting and lotteries;
- (f) Scams and financial risk: scams, get-rich-quick schemes, cryptocurrency or other financial or investment solicitations, payday loans, and multi-level marketing;
- (g) Politics: political, electoral, issue or campaign advertising of any kind. This is our own policy and applies whatever the cause or view;
- (h) Health: health, medical or weight-loss claims, and prescription drugs;
- (i) Contact routes and links: links, web addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and QR codes. These are not allowed at all, in any form, including spelled out or hidden in an image;
- (j) Impersonation and rights: impersonation of any person or organization; other people's trademarks, logos or copyrighted material that the Advertiser has no right to use;
- (k) Deception: deceptive or misleading claims, fake urgency, fake system messages, or content made to look like a message from us or the Town;
- (l) Children: content aimed at children under 13; and
- (m) Unlawful content: anything unlawful where it is shown or aimed, or that encourages unlawful conduct.
4.2 No evasion. An Advertiser shall not use coded spellings, images of text, tiny or hidden text, or any other means to get around this Policy or the review of an Ad.
4.3 Our discretion. Content that is not listed may still be rejected if we reasonably judge that it is unsuitable for the Town, creates legal or safety risk, or is likely to offend a substantial number of visitors.
5. Review and approval
5.1 Automatic first pass. Every Ad receives an automatic check. It applies rules to text (for example, links, emails, phone numbers, QR references and a short list of prohibited words), and an AI vision model hosted by an outside AI provider (NVIDIA's API service) examines the image and the words. The image and words are sent to that provider for that check only. When the model is unsure, a second, stricter automatic review decides. The review approves the Ad or declines it with a reason.
5.2 Automatic approval. An approved Ad is displayed at once (the Ad given at checkout, once payment is confirmed). No Ad is displayed before it is approved. The Ad given at checkout is reviewed before payment, so a declined Ad is never paid for. If the review cannot run, nothing is charged at checkout, and a replacement Ad waits until it can be reviewed automatically. Approval does not limit our right to remove an Ad later (section 6). You may ask for a person to look at a declined Ad through the Contact Form.
5.3 What review is. Review is a screening step carried out in good faith for our own purposes. It is not a warranty to the Advertiser or anyone else that an Ad is lawful, original or free of defects, and it does not shift responsibility for the Ad from the Advertiser.
5.4 Records. We keep each version of each Ad, each automatic review result, any decision made by a person, the reason, and an audit trail, as the Terms and the Privacy Policy describe.
5.5 Time. The automatic review usually takes a few seconds, but we do not promise a review time. The Paid Term runs from the first payment, as the Terms state; see the Cancellation and Refunds page for the refund available when no Ad is approved within 7 days.
6. Removal and enforcement
6.1 We may reject, remove, hide or replace any Ad at any time, including after approval, and may restrict or end an Account or Rental, if an Ad or its Advertiser breaches this Policy or the Terms, if we receive a credible complaint, or if the law or a court or government authority requires it. We may act without prior notice where delay would risk harm.
6.2 Where practicable we will tell the Advertiser the reason. A rejection or removal comes with a reason shown to the Advertiser on the market page.
6.3 Consequences. When an Ad or Rental is removed or ended for breaking this Policy or the Terms, no refund is due. Repeated or serious breaches may lead to the closing of the Account and a refusal of future Rentals. Where an Ad is removed for a reason that is not the Advertiser's fault, the refund rules on the Cancellation and Refunds page apply.
6.4 When a Rental ends, the Billboard returns to the house ad ("This space is available") and may be rented by others.
7. Reporting an ad
Any viewer may report an Ad that they believe breaks this Policy or the law. Use the Contact Form and give the Board ID of the Billboard (for example RT-NH-B001), where it is, and what the problem is. We review reports and may remove the Ad. We may not be able to tell you the outcome. A false or abusive report may itself be a breach of the Terms.
8. Child safety and mandatory reporting
8.1 Zero tolerance. Any Ad that contains, depicts or promotes sexual content involving a minor is absolutely prohibited. It will never be approved or displayed. If the automatic check, a reviewer or a report identifies such content, we will block it at once, report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as 18 U.S.C. § 2258A requires, preserve the material and related records as that law requires and without viewing it more than necessary, cooperate with law enforcement, and close the Account without refund.
8.2 Reports. To report such content in the Town, use the Contact Form with the subject "Child safety". You may also report it directly to the NCMEC CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org, or call the CyberTipline at 1-800-843-5678.
9. Rejections and appeals
9.1 Replacement. After a rejection, the Advertiser may upload a replacement Ad at any time during the Rental. Only one version waits for review at a time.
9.2 Appeal. The Advertiser may ask us to look again at a rejection or removal through the Contact Form (subject: "Ad appeal", with the Board ID and the version), explaining why the Ad complies. A different person will review the appeal where one is available. Our decision after review is final under this Policy, but it does not limit any right the Advertiser has under the Terms or by law.
9.3 Limits. An Ad flagged as possible child sexual abuse material can never be approved and cannot be appealed. Any other rejected or removed Ad can be approved on appeal only if it complies with this Policy, which may require changing it.
10. Copyright and trademark complaints
If you believe an Ad infringes your copyright, send a notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) through the Contact Form, as section 12 of the Terms explains, including the Board ID. An Advertiser whose Ad was removed may send a counter-notice as that section describes. Repeat infringers are terminated in appropriate circumstances. Trademark owners may send a complaint through the Contact Form naming the mark, the Board ID and the registration, and we will review it.
11. Changes and contact
We may change this Policy to reflect new risks, laws or practices. A change applies to new Ads and, after the notice period in the Terms, to Ads already displayed. If a change makes a displayed Ad non-compliant, we will give the Advertiser a reasonable chance to replace it where practicable; if the Ad cannot be fixed and the Rental ends for a reason that is not the Advertiser's fault, the refund rules on the Cancellation and Refunds page apply.
